How CS2 pet chickens work
Breed
Each pet is a Catalana, Polish or Silkie. The breed sets the model.
Color
The color is the item's style number. Valve picks it when the pet is made.
Seed
The pet seed fine-tunes the color and picks the markings and body shape. The same seed always gives the same chicken.
Growth
Pets grow from Egg to Chick, Pullet and Hen. Colors show from the Pullet stage on.
Questions
Can you trade CS2 pet chickens?
No. Pets can't be traded or sold on the Steam Community Market.
What are the odds for each color?
Valve rolls the color on its own servers. The game files give weights for most colors of a breed, but not all of them, and none between breeds, so the exact odds aren't known.
What does the pet seed do?
It's a number stored on every pet. The game turns it into small color shifts, a marking or pattern variant and the body proportions. The same seed always gives the same look.
What are unused colors?
6 colors ship in the game files but aren't in any breed's roll list, so no pet can have them right now.
How accurate is this viewer?
The models, textures, color math and body shape come from CS2's game files (build 1.41.8.4). The seed math matches the game exactly.
Lighting, iridescence and feather gloss are close approximations, so the in-game look can differ a little.
Where do the color names come from?
The game doesn't name the colors. We use the names players and trading sites use.
Color names: SteamAnalyst, Pricempire, CS2Locker, SkinSniper and Tradeit.
